Club contacts, visitor and membership information
SMSPC is a group of dog lovers come together to train in the sport of schutzhund/IPO (What is schutzhund/IPO?). Our members vary from serious competitors to those who just want to have fun working and training their dogs. All breeds are welcome and we do not look at "pedigrees" when evaluating dogs.
SMSPC is not a dog training service. The philosophy of SMSPC is that it is the handler's responsibility to train their dog, getting outside help where needed, and the Club's responsibility to assist and support them in the process. SMSPC expects Club members to train with the goal of working towards a IPO/AWD, DPO or other USA approved degree or title. SMSPC does not offer classes in obedience, household basic dog training, personal protection, guard dog training, attack dog training, or for working with behavioral problems.
We have a medium/large field with permanent wood blinds. Tracking on site for training and trials. In the winter, we train at the club field, weather permitting (snow, temps below 15 degrees).
We are a full member club of the United Schutzhund Clubs of America.

Obedience starts at approximately 9 Am
Protection after obedience at 10:30 - 11 AM
We do two rounds of protection so training usually runs until 3-4 PM.

Other times by appointment only.
Dogs must train in obedience to also train in protection.
No taking of photos or video by non members or visitors without approval of the training director or an officer.
No alcohol permitted on the grounds.
Dogs MUST be on leash at all times except when in a training situation that warrants off leash work. Handlers MUST have a leash with them at all times. Dogs must have collars on at all times. Dogs must be under the control of their handlers at all times or you will be asked to leave. Dogs MUST be crated when not working on the field or during breaks in designated areas.
No children under the age of 16 may be on the training grounds unless under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times. No children under the age of 16 are allowed on the training field at any time unless they are actively handling or helping in the training of a dog and under the supervision of an adult. The latter must be approved by the executive board.
Please pick up after your dogs and yourself.
The success of a club depends on the dedication of the members to each other, to themselves, and to working towards the goals of titling their dogs. With these goals in mind we expect our members to:
read and follow the bylaws of SMSPC.
regularly attend club training for all three phases.
set challenging yet realistic weekly and yearly goals that move them towards the titling of their dogs in upcoming events.
train during the week.
make weekly progress towards their goals or be prepared to ask for suggestions and guidance to help them towards those goals.
take control of their own training program with support from the club.
be supportive and available to help the other club members in their training.
be available for all club events including, but not limited to, trials, meetings and seminars.
always make an effort to volunteer their time to support the Club, including but not limited to upgrading equipment, maintaining the training location, enhancing the Club reputation and, in general, contributing to the development and success of the Club in any way.
always remember that they represent South Michigan SchH and Police club, its members and the United SchH Clubs of America.
refrain from poor sportsmanship or other conduct which may be offensive to Club members, the public or bring the Clubinto disrepute.
